Literacy Week

What a great start to our Literacy Week today.  We started the day with the formal opening of our new school library.  Kaumatua, Reimana Johnson said a karakia and the Kapa Haka sang a special Waiata.

We had a literacy quiz, where we answered questions about the book 'Hairy Maclary From Donaldson's Dairy' and when a special song played over the speaker everyone had to Stop, Drop and Read.
Quick Writes...
I see lovely books.
I see a silly Joke Book.
I hear Daily Five Boxes getting taken off the shelves.
I feel silly because I read a silly book.
I wonder what books other people have.
By Zeal.

I see amazing books.
I see Good Fit books being read.
I hear jazzy music.
I fell smart because books make you smart.
I wonder if everyone has a Good Fit book.
By Carlo.

Don't forget to look on your bookshelves at home for books you no longer want and bring them along to our Book Fair to sell or swap.

Open Afternoon is on Wednesday, where parents and grandparents can come along and join in the fun literacy activity that Room's 10 and 11 have planned...there may be some lions lurking...

Friday is going to be loads of fun with dress up, dress as your favourite book character, and the Hiwi the Kiwi Performance.

Wow it was so nice to see Mr Dixon in our new library reading us a Paul Jennings book today.
We love the way he uses some of the children's names as the characters in the story.

Well done Carlo...you won a prize from our Literacy Quiz on Monday.
We love hearing the jokes from your new Joke book.

Here we are heads down for another day of Literacy Quizzes...I wonder who will win today.

Mrs Aldridge and Miss Carswell are helping children to choose books to buy from the Book Fair.
Remember to keep those donations coming in and bring along a coin to buy or maybe swap a book.
